Close your eyes. The Iwami hills rise modestly around you, and old mining towns echo with a slow, patient memory.
You stand before Mononobe Jinja — a shrine for the ancestor of an ancient warrior-craftsman clan.
Breathe in. The cedar around the shrine has the faint, mineral scent of a place that knows iron.
Mythos
Umashimaji-no-Mikoto — the deity of the Mononobe clan, the patron of weapons-making and iron-craft.
The Mononobe were not only warriors. They were the people who knew how to make the things that warriors used.
Have you been celebrating the swords of others, while quietly forging the iron yourself?
Mononobe whispers: the makers behind the heroes are the true patient ones. Your invisible work matters.
Sacred Resonance
Find any old metal fitting in the shrine — a bell, a railing, a tool.
Place your fingertips on it. Feel the cool of metal that has held its shape against weather, hands, time.
You, too, are made of metal that has held its shape.
Tailwind Blessing
Bow. Clap twice — sharp as struck iron. Bow.
Leave. Step out onto the Iwami coast, wind at your back.
The sea wind meets you — Divine Tailwind, iron-edged.
Every breath is a tool you forged in silence.
Walk on, smith. The work behind the work is honored.

Etiquette
Bow once before passing under the torii
The torii marks the threshold between the everyday world and the sacred. A small bow acknowledges the crossing.
Purify at the temizuya (water pavilion)
Left hand, then right, then rinse your mouth from the left, then cleanse the handle. One ladle of water carries you through all four motions.
At the main hall: two bows, two claps, one bow
Deep bow twice, clap twice with intention, offer your silent greeting, then one final deep bow. No coin is required.
Leave quietly. Let the shrine follow you out
A pilgrimage does not end at the gate. The stillness travels with you.
