Close your eyes. The massive shoulder of Tateyama stands above you — one of Japan's three most sacred mountains, still snow-capped in midsummer.
You are at the gateway shrine of Oyama Jinja, the doorway to the high world.
Breathe in. The air thins with ambition.
Mythos
Izanagi — the primordial father — and Ame-no-Tajikarao, the god of mighty arms who pulled the sun back from the cave.
This is the shrine of the threshold climber — the one who dares to ascend toward what seems too high.
Every ambition begins at the base. Every summit begins with the willingness to lift one foot.
Tateyama does not judge how fast you climb. It simply waits for you at each elevation.
Have you been comparing your pace with others? The mountain has never once.
Sacred Resonance
Find a smooth stone near the torii. Lift it — only briefly — and feel its weight.
This stone has been here longer than your question of "am I strong enough."
Place it back down gently.
The strength you need is not in the stone. It is in your willingness to lift and release it, without needing to prove anything.
Tailwind Blessing
Bow. Clap twice — clear as an alpine bell. Bow.
Descend. Pause where the valley opens, wind at your back.
The mountain wind from Tateyama greets you — Divine Tailwind, cold, thin, exhilarating.
Every breath is an altitude earned.
Walk on, climber. The mountain walks with you now.

Etiquette
Bow once before passing under the torii
The torii marks the threshold between the everyday world and the sacred. A small bow acknowledges the crossing.
Purify at the temizuya (water pavilion)
Left hand, then right, then rinse your mouth from the left, then cleanse the handle. One ladle of water carries you through all four motions.
At the main hall: two bows, two claps, one bow
Deep bow twice, clap twice with intention, offer your silent greeting, then one final deep bow. No coin is required.
Leave quietly. Let the shrine follow you out
A pilgrimage does not end at the gate. The stillness travels with you.
